The Battle of Bull Run
On July 21, 1961, in Virginia near the Bull Run River, the battle of Bull Run broke out. The Civil War had just started and neither the Confederates nor the Union was prepared for battle. Since the north outnumbered the rebels, they were winning at the beginning. Although, General P.G.T. Beauregard of the rebels created a very effective counter attack that forced the North to retreat. This loss made it clear to the north that defeating the south would be proven harder than it was originally thought.
